FAQ

Question:

My pump sounds like it is pumping gravel. What is causing that noise?

Answer:

Sounds like it could be cavitation. Cavitation means that cavities or tiny vapor bubbles are forming in the water around the eye of the impeller. When this water is subject to higher pressure these bubbles collapse which then creates small shockwaves. Over time and left untreated, these shockwaves can lead to corrosion of the pump. Keep a look out for common symptoms including noise and vibration coupled with a loss of pressure, capacity and efficiency.

To prevent cavitation, always be sure to operate your pump within its pressure and flow specifications. Cavitation doesn’t necessarily mean your pump is ruined—it depends on the duration and severity. Have a trusted pump service team check it out; they can possibly advise some preventative measures.
