First ABEL Pump arrives in Sydney
Having recently been appointed as the authorised Australian Distributor for ABEL Pumps, Kelair Pumps Australia have recently welcomed the first pump from the ABEL product line into its Sydney warehouse.
The ABEL HP-K-25, triplex high pressure pump will be required to deliver high pressure water into a mine tailings discharge line in the event of a shut-down such as a power failure. This is to prevent the tailings setting or solidifying in the discharge line.
Typically, these pumps are v-belt driven by an electric motor however, as the pump is required to operate in the event of a power outage, this unit needed to be diesel engine powered.
In this case, the unit will be driven by an Isuzu 6BG1T, 121kW, 6-cylinder, industrial turbo diesel engine.
To remove one additional point of maintenance and possible failure, the v-belt reduction pulley drive system has been replaced with a gearbox and two drive shafts (one into the gearbox and the other out to the pump), as well as a centrifugal clutch on the engine flywheel which will allow the engine to start and run up to speed before engaging the pump drive.
