Viking Pump have done it again

Leading the way in Research & Development, Viking have enlarged their motor-speed pump range

Only a few years ago Viking expanded their SG range of what were typically low flow high pressure external gear pumps to significantly increase flowrate capability (with discharge pressure capability exceeding 34 Bar continuous, and 172 Bar intermittent). Viking have continued to grow and develop their products, recently releasing their expanded range in compact motor-speed pumps. This time to significantly increase the flowrate capability of the 4195 pump series. The 495 being the close-coupled version and the 4195 being the long-coupled base-mounted version. Viking can now offer an extra Heavy Duty alternative to high speed viscous fluid transfer. Flowrates approaching 104m3/hr (approximately 1,733 LPM) may be achieved at 8 Pole motor speed, while saving the additional cost and space requirement of a gearbox (something required by most other gear pump designs). These pumps are not only compact, but they are also heavy duty, rated up to 17 Bar differential pressure. Viscosities ranging up to a maximum 5,500 cSt may be pumped with the motor-speed 495 and 4195 series.

Viking Motor Speed Pump

To achieve fluid delivery at up to 1,733 LPM at motor speed, the suction ports of this gear pump need to be carefully designed to have improved suction characteristics (e.g. acceptable NPSHR). On these larger pumps Viking have introduced an extra wide, wrap around step feed design in the suction port to enable high flowrate of thin or viscous fluids feeding into pump suction. This motor-speed pump is not just suited to viscous fluids, it is also a “thin liquids” pump and can handle viscosities down to 0.8cSt.

Viking motor speed gear pumps can also handle occasional very small hard solids, occasional dry running, and are well suited to self-priming. It’s a very forgiving pump when it comes to occasional system upsets and it is certainly designed to be one of a kind!

Viking are a world leader in R&D with gear pumps. Their range encompasses far more than other gear pump manufacturers. They have developed:

Viking are proving their capabilities in gear pump design by varying the internal configurations of their pump duties to encompass:

  • Chemicals
  • Polymers
  • Fuel Transfer
  • Lube Oil transfer
  • Bitumen & Bitumen emulsion pumping
  • Viscous Fluids pumping
  • Tanker Unloading
  • Paints & Inks
  • Adhesives & Resins
  • Abrasive fluid pumping
  • Foam Resin / Isocyanate process
  • Food Process pumps
  • Mining lubrication /Drag lines
  • Compressor lubrication (high pressure)
  • Ammonia & LPG transfer (thin liquids)
  • High temperature pumping
