Zero leakage with micro-pumping grooves

Active Seal technology is designed for products in continuous operation where reliable sealing and leakage prevention are important.

The Active Seal functionality is a unique zero-leakage solution applied to the inner seal of a double-seal system. It prevents liquid from entering the motor. The viscous shear of the fluid in the laser-cut grooves creates a hydrodynamic pumping effect that directs any liquid on the stator side back to the buffer-fluid side of the seal.

By minimising accumulated leakage into the stator housing and/or the inspection chamber, the Active Seal system improves sealing reliability and reduces the risk of bearing and stator failure. This helps minimise downtime.

Active Seal technology is available for a selected range of Flygt Plug-in seals and Flygt double-sealing systems with separate single seals.

Active Seal technology is only available from Flygt for Flygt pumps.

Flygt Basic Repair Kits provide the Genuine Flygt Parts required for basic pump service at a lower cost than purchasing the parts separately. Having all the required parts in one box saves time and simplifies handling.

Basic repair kits include a set of O-rings made to exacting tolerances. The O-rings can also be purchased separately in O-ring kits.

Bearings are key components in the long-lasting, trouble-free operation of Flygt dewatering pumps. Bearing life has a direct effect on maintenance intervals for major service overhaul.

Through years of field experience and testing, Xylem has developed a detailed understanding of the factors that influence bearing performance and lifetime.

Based on years of product development and field-based experience, the bearings in Flygt products are selected to have a lifetime that generally exceeds 50,000 hours.

Unique Flygt part numbers ensure selection of the correct bearing configuration

Flygt bearings may appear to be standard bearings with standard dimensions from approved and well-known suppliers. However, bearings used in Flygt products have special tolerances and clearances that are important for correct operation.

Bearings from other suppliers may have identical overall dimensions but can have important differences that are difficult to see. As a result, direct bearing comparisons can be difficult.

For example, the denomination specified on the outer race does not always provide sufficient information for bearing selection. This information alone is not sufficient to select the right bearing and configuration for a specific Flygt pump.

Using a similar bearing with only the same overall dimensions can reduce bearing lifetime and overall product reliability. In some cases, it can also affect prior product approvals and void warranties.

For this reason, all bearings for Flygt pumps have unique Flygt part numbers. This ensures that the correct bearings are ordered and installed to meet equipment specifications.

Flygt Griploc Mechanical Face Seals

Designed for reliable performance

The robust and clog-resistant design of Griploc mechanical face seals provides consistent performance and long, trouble-free operation. The patented Griploc seal design securely locks the seal without damaging the shaft.

The solid seal rings maintain their flatness to help prevent leaks. The combination of leakage prevention, component interaction and high-resistant materials, including Viton O-rings and robust seal rings with a unique tungsten carbide composition, supports reliable operation.

Seal rings are also available in aluminium oxide or reaction-bonded silicon carbide. Selected Griploc seal variants include Active Seal technology, which acts as a micro pump to prevent liquid from entering the motor housing.

Griploc seals are used for both inner and outer sealing. When mounted in the inner position, the seal prevents liquid from entering the motor housing. When mounted in the outer position, the seal prevents pumped media from leaking into the buffer chamber.

Griploc mechanical face seals are available for Flygt dewatering pumps from 2071 up to 2201. Griploc seals can also be used for selected older Flygt dewatering pumps that are no longer in production. Check with your Xylem applications expert for more information.

Quick and secure mounting

Griploc seals are easy to mount in a Flygt pump and do not require special service tools. An ordinary screwdriver and the mounting tool supplied with each seal are required.

There is only one way to install a Griploc seal. The uniform design supports simple and correct installation, with the same installation procedure used for all Griploc seal variants.

Double mechanical seal in one easy-to-install unit

A special design protects sensitive sealing surfaces and springs from impurities. This helps improve sealing reliability and reduce downtime and maintenance costs.

Flygt Plug-in seals feature two independent mechanical seals mounted in a single, ready-to-install unit. Installation is simple and no special service tools are required; just place the Plug-in seal in position.

Plug-in seals with Active Seal technology have laser-cut spiral grooves in the seal face of the inner seal. These grooves pump liquid from the inner to the outer diameter of the seal ring to prevent liquid from entering the stator housing.

New design improvements

Metallurgy plays an important role in the life of Flygt seals. The seal housing is constructed of aluminium while the seal house bottom is stainless steel. This design helps increase the robustness of the seal housing and improve heat transfer, reducing the potential for melting due to high temperatures.

The specially designed seal house bottom holds the stationary outer seal in place and allows the outer stationary seal ring to remain unaffected by small movements caused by pressure changes in the oil housing.

The design also ensures that the stationary outer seal ring follows the movements of the rotational outer seal ring and minimises the risk of pumped media entering the housing.

Flygt Valve Repair Kit

The flush valve is primarily designed to flush and cleanse the pump sump of sewage water and sludge by mixing the sewage water automatically before discharge.

It mounts on the pump housing, and its design is based on the ejector principle with a ball as the closing device.
